Students should be picked up each school day between 3:30-3:45 each afternoon. This applies to younger siblings of older students involved in after school activities like basketball practice, play rehearsal, etc., as we simply do not have the staffing to provide adequate oversight of younger students. Unless you have made previous arrangements with the Headmaster, please pick up students by 3:45 p.m.
Due to the initial collection date for Spell-a-Thon pledges falling immediately after Thanksgiving break, we are extending the collection date to Monday, December 7th, in order for students to be able to qualify for prizes. Parents, please gather the pledges for your student(s) and send them in this week. We’re almost to our $20,000 goal! Thanks for your support and care for this annual fundraiser. Questions? Contact your student’s teacher or email Spell-a-Thon coordinator Libby Kueneke.

Do you know someone interested in enrolling their student(s) at Petra? Our monthly recitations are a sampling of work being done in the entire elementary school. We showcase all subjects, including Latin, music, and subjects covered in the classrooms at large. Our third recitation of the year is scheduled for Friday, November 20, from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the Performance Hall. Parents, grandparents, prospective parents, and friends of the school are invited to come observe the fruits of our students’ labors.
Our choral concert, Schola Cantorum (“school of singers”), is scheduled for Thursday, November 19, at 7:00 p.m. in the Petra Performance Hall. This is an exciting new event featuring our 4th/5th/6th choir and 7th/8th choirs performing onstage. The performance is free, and we are looking forward to a lovely evening of music and community. Questions? Email choir director Heidi Hornung.
Petra students find delight in verbal expression and dramatic arts as we train students to live a life marked by excellence and beauty. Past theatrical shows include Anne of Green Gables, The Rivals, The Importance of Being Earnest, Arsenic and Old Lace, Much Ado About Nothing, and Love’s Labor’s Lost. What is this year’s play? Drama Director Eli Denison would love to tell you, so click here!
If your child would like to participate in our elementary’s Operation Christmas Child, we are asking students to bring one or more of the following items: small toys or stuffed animals, hygiene items, shoes, socks, balls, school supplies, jump ropes, coloring books with crayons. Please do not include war items, liquids, or food. All items must be new, and can be dropped off in the box by the Christmas trees in the elementary wing.
On November 17th/18th, students can sign up in their classroom to attend a packing party from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. At this time, we will assemble the shoeboxes with the donated items students for children around the world. For more information, please contact elementary parent Kristin Sayre at 599-9073.
There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, Nov. 13th, as we block the day for our Parent/Teacher Conferences. Sign-up sheets are available at the front desk for easy access, and interested parents should sign-up by Thursday, Nov. 12.
