“We were invited to the recitation, but frankly, the whole idea of a school having an assembly so that their students could recite stuff they’d memorized each month didn’t sound that appealing.
But then we saw first graders recite Luke 2 from memory. We saw sixth graders sing in Latin. We saw children singing and playing violin and an African drum. We saw joy in everything that happened in that hour.
Petra doesn’t seem to be just a challenging academic environment. It doesn’t seem to be just a Christian school. And it definitely doesn’t seem like ‘public school plus Jesus.’
It seems a school that teaches a way of learning and a way of living – fully integrated around educational principles that go back thousands of years, with a spirituality that goes back to the days when the dew of creation was fresh upon the ground.
All this was in the background on this December morning when I saw a bunch of kids recite the Word of God. Thank you.”
